Reading in progress
I’m currently reading this book and collecting insights from it.
The Confident Mind (2022) is a book by Dr. Nate Zinsser that discusses self-confidence and offers tools to improve one.
It portrays confidence in the kind of way that I find harmful and negative and I think the world would be a better place if people would have bit more humility than overconfidence in their greatness.
Two of the early examples of this in the book are from NFL quarterback Eli Manning who considered himself better than what his track record gave reason for – and the author claims this is a necessity to be at the top of one’s sport – and from the movie Dumb and Dumber where Lloyd is politely rejected by a woman with a “one in a million chance” which he interprets as “so there is a chance” and pursuing that with confidence.
