In May 2026, Pokemon did the best thing in a long time for digital Pokemon TCG and launched Build & Battle mode. It’s the Prerelease format in digital format and when it works, it’s the most fun I’ve had in Live for a long long time (there are some bugs, it’s Live after all…).

For the first set, Chaos Rising, they gave everyone 10 B&B tokens and 1 free play. I don’t know if they will always refresh your token count to 10 at the start of a new set but I do hope so.

Each “run” costs a single B&B token and gives you a 40 card deck and 4 packs to open. Just like in prereleases, you can then mix and match the cards from the deck and packs to build a 40 card deck. You’ll then play 5 rounds against opponents and each win nets you rewards.

In my opinion, the only reward that matters is the B&B token you get if you win at least 3 out of 5 matches as that enables you to keep playing indefinitely.

Prerelease or Build & Battle format is one of the best formats in the game. Games are played with 40 card decks so they are fast and fun.
