Roll the Zine is a board and card game focused zine and a love letter to creativity, gaming and DIY culture. It’s an exploration of media, imperfection and putting something out there.
Roll the Zine is my board game themed zine that I started in January 2026. Each issue I publish, I learn a ton about the tools, how to write better and slowly expanding my writing to different types of pieces.
In the inaugural issue, published January 2026, I wrote about Wingspan, Print and Play board games, Forgetful fish, Tinderblox and Hive. The 2nd issue is planned to be about worker placement games.
In the second issue, published April 2026, I explored my favourite mechanic: worker placement. I wrote about Stone Age, Agricola, Crisis and The Artemis Project.
For the third issue, I experimented with something different and published a zine full of badly drawn Magic the Gathering tokens from my own collection.
The fourth issue was published to be part of Of Dice and Meeples APA on a theme of racing games. From 1960s Suomi-Rally to fun race betting game Camel Up and to my favourite racing game Flamme Rouge, I explore all sorts of racing games.
To celebrate the largest science fiction and fantasy convention in Finland, Finncon, where I spoke in a panel discussion about making zines, I made a Finncon special edition focusing on science fiction in board games.
You can find all current and future issues at the website where you can also subscribe to an RSS feed for them.
