IMDB: Chaos Walking (2021)
Starring: Tom Holland, Daisy Ridley
Chaos Walking has a very cool setup: a group of people have landed on a planet where men’s thoughts become noise, visible to everyone else (like a reverse What women want but less comedy). Viola (Daisy Riddley) crashes on the planet and is helped by Todd (Tom Holland) as she searches a way to get in communication with her people in the space.
I love how the world-building is mainly done by dialogue as the main characters get to know each other and understand each other and what their lives are like. The world feels alien enough to be uncanny but the relationships between the characters feel so very human. I love that balance. And we get to discover the backstory of the world at the same time as both of the main characters.
Riddley and Holland are both excellent actors and the supporting cast of Mads Mikkelsen and Cynthia Erivo —to name a few— is very good.
