IMDB: Code of Silence (TV Series 2025– )
Starring: Rose Ayling-Ellis, Charlotte Ritchie, Kieron Moore
Code of Silence is an excellent British crime series about Alison (Rose Ayling-Ellis), a deaf caterer who works at the police station and is excellent at lip-reading. She’s invited to help in a high profile robbery case and gets too involved for her own good.
The six episode first season is an excellent piece of drama tv. What initially drew me in was the excellent cast, especially Ayling-Ellis and Ritchie, and what kept me hooked was the chemistry, great pacing and good storytelling.
While I really enjoyed the first season, I’m not sure if I want a second one. As I wrote in How much change is the right amount of change?, shows that have a strong idea and setup for the first story rarely succeed in capturing the same magic again in future seasons. Big part of the charm of the first season’s story was how Alison ended up in helping the police bit by accident and goes too deep. I’m certain this cast can make a great crime series in the future as well but I’m afraid it’d turn into a run-of-the-mill procedural police drama.
