Interesting stories
Interesting stories are notes about peculiar things about the world that I found interesting as I learned about them from discussions, talks, podcasts, books, documentaries and quizzes. They tickle my trivia quiz brain.
On 24 June 1982, an airplane captained by captain Eric Moody, got into trouble while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Perth. The plane flew into a cloud of volcanic ash that caused its windshields to become obstructed and all four engines shutting down.
Despite the lack of time, Moody made an announcement to the passengers that has been described as “a masterpiece of understatement”:
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them going again. I trust you are not in too much distress.
