Trigger Point is a British TV show about Lana Washington — a bomb disposal officer — and her squad solving cases and saving lives. It’s essentially a cop show but instead of following cops, they follow these bomb disposal people.
It’s a really good show with stellar cast but there’s something weird about its tone and intensity. All their cases have high stakes but that doesn’t really communicate through. I’m not sure if that’s intentional or accidental but it’s kind of uncanny. Compared to many other shows in the genre, there are way less happy endings but somehow none of that matters.
Sometimes this lighter tone is a good thing as it makes the show easy to watch but given the story points and events that take place, it probably shouldn’t be so light to watch.
Compared to regular cop shows, the bomb disposal angle makes it refreshing though and that’s one of its best aspects. There are so many ways the villains of these stories build bombs and that makes every episode interesting. From an engineering point of view, that’s much more engaging than the “regular crimes” in cop shows.
The personal drama outside the cases is your usual run of the mill stuff. Nothing special but not bad either: it brings more depth to the characters and it doesn’t feel awkward.
It’s the type of show where when I saw the third season pop in my local streaming service, I was happy and binged it through right away. That’s a seal of quality if I can think of one.
